Daily Sketch 14/08/2010

Today’s daily sketch is a homage to one of my favourite artists, Muncha. I love the incredible amount of swirly detail he puts into his art and his ability to create such energy and character in his paintings. His works are immediately recognisable by his unusual style using intricate line work delicate washes.

The work I have chosen to draw from is a poster for job cigarette-papers. This picture is relatively bold and simple by Mucha standards but I love the expression on the girls face and the intricate swirly hair which incidentally was a nightmare to copy! I don’t think I’ve done too bad a job except for the lettering which is no where near right.

Humm… looking at this picture I think my recent concern for the health of my scanner was warranted, it appears to be on its last legs!
